Inauguration ceremony - prominent guests

Following a 15 month extension building phase the extended and sustainable location was ceremoniously presented to the public in the course of the European Forum Alpbach (EFA) on the Tyrol Day on 21.08.2016. The festive opening celebrations of the enlarged Congress Centrums Alpbach were formally launched by Franz Fischler, president of the European Forum Alpbach in the presence of EU-Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and the Governors Günther Platter (Province of Tyrol), Arno Kompatscher (Province of South Tyrol) and Ugo Rossi (Province of Trentino).

The extension was worth it - innovative, spacious and green

The Congress Centrums Alpbach’s impressive architecture blends in harmoniously with Alpbach’s traditional building style and the surrounding Tyrolean Alpine backdrop. One of the specifications for the extension was to preserve this balance. The results are clear for all to see: starting from March 2015 the „Green Meeting“ certified conference centre was extended according to sustainable requirements standards and equipped with the newest up to date conferencing technology. All scopes of successful conferencing and meeting were taken into consideration and now fulfil highest quality standards. DI Markus Prackwieser and his team of architects from the Architekturwerkstatt DIN in Innsbruck designed in addition to the multi partible plenary hall three seminar halls, a spacious foyer and a two-storey underground garage.

Multi-functional: one building, many uses

The Congress Centrum Alpbach has always been considered a location, where various event formats are in best hands. So as to be able to offer optimum service to the growing demand for all types of event designs and sizes, great emphasis has been placed on multi-functionality in the new extended CCA. The floor space was planned with innovative design to suit various specifications. As is the case with the existing building the extension to a large extent is situated underground and at the same time illuminated by daylight. Movable partition walls enable multi-functional use of floor space and exhibition areas. Combinable seminar halls of various sizes create ideal conditions for multifaceted event formats.

In other words: the new extended CCA easily hosts events ranging from a gala reception to a plenary meeting for 750 people. The new centre can cater for a variety of event designs and the spatial flexibility in particular will enable a combination of various simultaneous events: congresses, conferences, and meetings, subject related trade fairs exhibitions as well as corporate events, roadshows, special events or incentives.

Energy – leading future oriented role

Of course the CCA remains true to its principles regarding sustainability and with the new building takes a pioneering role in the conferencing sector. In Alpbach sustainable conference tourism was never a vague promise and this sincere commitment is clearly visible and tangible in the new buildings architecture. On all construction levels ecological criteria were taken into account to fulfil organisers and participants comfort and to supply the up to date technology: Highest energy efficiency combined with modern building technology, energy for the heating and cooling generated by a geothermally operated heat pump, optimum heat generation with pellets, a façade with integrated photovoltaic panels and electricity one hundred percent sourced from regional small-scale power plants.

Green Meeting in Alpbach – there is no better place to experience nature up close?

For several years Alpbach and its Congress Centrum are considered a leading Green Meeting destination in the German-speaking region. It certainly has the picturesque location to thank for its leading role. The building itself is embedded in a slope and in future a roof-top terrace will offer an ideal haven for clearing the mind or for relaxed chats amongst colleagues - wonderful views over the scenic valley included. In other words: Alpbach means conferencing in a sustainable environment that encourages thought processes. The recently presented „klimaaktiv“ silver award, the Austrian Eco Label“ for Green Meetings and the international „Green Globe Certification“ are valid proofs.

When technology works miracles and events come to life

With the CCA extension the in-house technology was upgraded and is adapted to suit the latest light, sound systems and video and interpreting facilities.

For example the acoustics: what should it be, concert hall or cathedral setting? The innovative software of a sophisticated acoustic concept can set the acoustics to cover a range of top quality audible tones. The 3D-system is one of the most modern systems in Europe and simulates acoustics from world renowned concert halls.

Underground garage – necessary comfort for participants and exhibitors

The underground garage offers space for 113 vehicles. Over the past a rising demand from participants, in particular day visitors, indicated the need at the CCA for more conferencing comfort. Exhibitors can now have the deliveries made underground by lorry. The use of public transport (Regiobus) is free and participants who overnight are encouraged to use this means of transport for their arrivals and departures.

Joint responsibilities – joint goals: the province Tyrol, the Europe region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino, Alpbach and Alpbachtal & Tiroler Seenland tourist board together with the European Forum Alpbach all invested in the conference, meeting and forum locations extension. The costs for the projects modernisation and extension came to approx. eleven million Euros. A clear signal for long-term interconnectedness was set by the involvement from all those concerned. Future issues in the Alpine region can only be mastered together. The CCA extension project is the best example on how to ensure the region remains competitive and prosperous.
