70 years European Forum Alpbach – unique story of success for the Tyrolean conference venue
In the past years come August space in Alpbach has become for and more limited. The European Forum Alpbach with approx. 750 speakers and annually 4.000 participants from over 60 countries attracts attention in its role as interdisciplinary platform for science, politics, economy and culture. The top event that at all times features a line-up of high profile international speakers will be celebrating its 70 – year jubilee in 2015 and expects an increase in participants. This is one of the reasons for the CCAs spacious extension.
As from early Summer 2016 the Green Meeting destination located in the unique setting of the Tyrolean Alps will boast additional 1.234m² of modular areas. During the intensive building works undisturbed conferencing will continue, if desired, respecting sustainable criteria.
Healthy growth taking responsibilities towards sustainable conferencing
Georg Hechenblaikner, who has been CCA director since 2003 has many plans for the new buildings success: „Expansion at all costs and without respecting sustainable aspects would not have been in accordance with the CCA. Alpbach and its congress centre is one of the leading Green Meeting – destinations in the German speaking congress and conference industry and thus has committed itself to follow this path.“ The new CCAs architectural features are highly presentable: the extension is built into the slope creating ideal insulation, highly efficient cooling and heating is provided by geothermal energy. With these sustainable measures Alpbach is sending out clear signals as a future-orientated meeting destination.
Flexible areas – trend to cross-financing and variable room concepts
The expansion is ideal for organisers of scientific conferences, as it follows the international trend of housing specialised trade fairs, thus enabling the organisers to cross finance the event. Innovative design to the spacious layout was created so as to remain competitive in the future. As from early Summer 2016 the destination will offer additional flexible areas, with a further meeting hall, three adjoining seminar rooms and a new foyer and entrance hall.
Committed to the region – convincing interaction
The financial support of the project mirrors the strong links within the region and the great importance of the European Forum Alpbach for the project partners: the county of Tyrol 5,6 Mio, EVTZ Tyrol South Tyrol Trentino 3 Mio, the municipality Alpbach and tourism board 1 Mio. They all share the same goal – strong commitment to the region’s economic force and a desire to keep Alpbach competitive on the international congress and conference scene.
