Dr. rer.comm. Klaus Peter Heiss (born 1941 in Bressanone, died 2010 in Bressanone) was a space scientist, NASA space expert and U.S. government advisor. Heiss professional achievements have been recognized with awards, most recently receiving the Medal of Honor of the City of Bressanone in 2009. In addition, he has received the "NASA Public Service Award" for exceptional service to the U.S. space program (1981) and the "NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal" for exceptional pioneering work in space exploration (2008). Heiss received the Golden Medal of Honor of Austrians Abroad for fighting for 20 years - ultimately successfully - for the right to vote for Austrian citizens living abroad.
