History

Name origin

Dr. rer.comm. Klaus Peter Heiss (born in 1941 in Brixen, passed away in 2010 in Brixen) was a space scientist, NASA spaceflight expert, and advisor to the U.S. government. Heiss's professional achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including the Honorary Medal of the City of Brixen in 2009. He also received the "NASA Public Service Award" for outstanding contributions to the U.S. space program (1981) and the "NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal" for pioneering work in space research (2008). He was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor for Austrians Abroad in recognition of his 20-year effort—ultimately successful—to secure voting rights for Austrian citizens living abroad.
