History
Name origin
The rooms in the Congress Centrum Alpbach are named after personalities and patrons who have had a special connection to the "European Forum Alpbach." The English writer Arthur Koestler (1905 - 1983), of Austrian-Hungarian descent, studied natural sciences. Starting in 1926, he worked as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East, Paris, Berlin, and the USSR. His reports and novels address ethical and political problems and conflicts. Koestler engaged deeply with communism. He made Alpbach his chosen home and built the so-called "Schreiberhäusl" there.
